Laughter is a Gift

About twenty five years ago, when I recorded my first comedy cassette, I though I was doing it to make a little extra money.  i had no idea of the impact humor can have on our lives.  I guess I had not yet realized that laughter is one of the greatest gifts we have ever been given.

Now don't get me wrong--I still love it when you purchase my comedy; but my real reward comes when you tell me that my humor helped you through hard times or helped you through an illness. Some of you even refer to what I do as a ministry.  I hadn't really thought about it, but if you see it that way then it is a ministry.  I have heard hundreds of stories of how you took the recordings to hospitals and nursing homes and used them to raise someone's spirit or put a smile on a face that hadn't smiled in a long time.  That makes me feel so good.

One night after a program.  a woman approached me with tears in her eyes. She gave me a big hug and whispered.  "Tonight you changed my life."  I also teared up a little.  I'm not as macho as I look.

So, the whole purpose of this little blog, here at a time of thanksgiving and Christmas.  is to simply say thank you for the kind support you have given me over the years.

Before I go I must tell you what happened the other day.  I did a little program for the staff and residents of a nursing home.   I used my best humor and we all had a good time.  As I was leaving, I saw a man in a wheel chair sitting by the door.

"How ya doing, buddy?" I asked.
"I haven't been feeling very well lately."  he replied.  I said, "Well, I hope you get better soon."
Then he looked up at me and said, "I hope you do too."

In our search for laughter,  let us start with ourselves.
