Half-a-Cow Year

For a lot of folks, 2009 has been a "half-a-cow" year.   Let me explain...

My business partner, Mike McKinney, and I have a friend in Erwin, Tennessee, whose name is Ralph Hood.  Ralph is a great professional speaker, and for the past 14 years Ralph and his wife, Gail, have been involved in a charitable organization called the Heifer Project where people buy cows and give them to needy families in various parts of the world.   The Heifer Project is what makes all that happen.

For many years, the Hoods have been giving a cow in Mike's name as a Christmas gift.   However, this year, because of the economic conditions we're in, Ralph and Gail are giving only half a cow.

Half a cow?   That got me to thinking.   How does one give just half a cow?   How does one know which half the needy family will get?   If the family gets the half that only eats, that is not good.   If they get the other half, where do they hang the cow bell?   Anyway,   I trust the folks at the Heifer Project know what they are doing.

A lot of good people, all of us really, are like Gail and Ralph.   We've had a "half-a-cow" year.   Yet we have much to be thankful for.   Some folks don't any cow at all.   I hope 2010 will be much better.   Have a wondeful and prosperous new year.
